POSSIBLE STUDY OF HOME X DESIGNAGE CLUB

This month, two of the Lab’s main projects crossed-over, when Draw Your Home! Workshop participants met the members of DesignAge HK Club (DAHK)!

Six sessions of workshops were held for the members of DAHK, allowing them to learn to use basic spatial design language. Firstly, they were invited to design as a team. Using carton furniture, the members worked together to simulate interior design practice. The process is set on a 1:1 floor plan of a typical public housing unit for a 2-3 people family, with the area of merely 36.8m2. In the process they got to experience a new form of discussion through manipulating tangible objects. They then had to translate the three-dimension experience into a two-dimension floor plan to record their results.

The third task of the workshop was even more challenging, as the participants were asked to draw the floor plans of their home, in scale. Yet with the help of specifically designed tools, all the members went home with beautiful self-drawn floor plans.

As a next step, the workshop will be transferred to high schools, engaging junior high school pupils, aged 12 to 15. The experience of testing the tools with older people during the workshop definitely provided a new insight for the study.
