FLOWER GRANNY (花婆婆) X DESIS LAB

The first move of DesignAge HK Club is the collaboration with a local active older painter, Ms. Cheng, or widely known as ‘Flower Granny’. ‘Flowers helped me raise my kids!’ said Flower Granny. She spent most of her life in selling flowers, so after her retirement, it was very hard for her to accept the fact that she would no longer be growing or selling flowers. But luckily, now she has discovered a new relationship with flowers, that is, drawing them.

 

Flower Granny on Products Designed for Older People 

Speaking of old people’s talent to design, Flower Granny is a good example for inspiration. She did not pick up the paintbrush until the age of 80! Now she is a very devoted painter, drawing from sunrise to sunset. The flower business made her feel proud in the past, and now she moves on to an unexpected page on which she designs and discovers her new relation with flowers. 

Flower Granny is fascinating in her free and random choice of ‘canvas’. She literally draws on anything or any objects. Her paintings are often interpretations of and conversations with different materials and forms of industrial artefacts, expressing the subtle sophistications of life and her vibrant energy that reminds people of, William Morris who would be very proud of her. 

DESIS Lab is interested to find out what would be her choice on products designed for ageing population, and her new found way of using the products.
