(老) AGEING IN THE NORDIC NATIONS

In Feb, researchers of the Lab were in Bergen, the second largest city in Norway, to explore ageing and design with over 70 students from three different schools: The Bergen School of Architecture (BAS), Bergen University College (HiB) – Department of Civil Engineering, “Physical planning and technical infrastructure” and Bergen Academy of Art and Design (KhiB), Department of Design, “furniture- and spatial design / interior architecture. The workshop was entitled “Ageing in Bergen: Designing with communities for social innovation”. In the cold and rainy two–weeks, different disciplinary students worked together and challenged each other to explore universal, inclusive and participatory design methods. Cozy and warm design ideas were presented at a community event which engaged local communities about social inclusion and innovation and invited them to co-design new solutions for the future Bergen city. Additionally, they also dropped by Copenhagen where Dr Yanki Lee, director of the Lab was invited by the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation (KADK), Copenhagen, Denmark, as a visiting scholar to conduct the study of “Ageing in Christiana: Historical Freetown for Democracy and Hippies”.
