2. 100 older people X 300 students…

First of all, William Outcast works with SAGE International Group Limited (仁智國際集團有限公司), a company specialised in deathcare and funeral service in Hong Kong with its charity arm (仁智尊嚴會), they brought in around 100 older people to work with young design students at HKDI. Among the 100, 20 of them were invited to be co-designers, involved in the creative process. With 300 students from seven VTC Design Departments they worked on different scales/directions/areas of the design response to death education:

  • Printing & Publishing and Design Section (Foundation Diploma) students redesigned and researched ‘Life History Books’ for home display

  • Fashion and Image Design students interpreted older people’s life histories and created dreamy images to demonstrate active ageing

  • Product Design and Visual Arts & Culture students explored new ways to reveal our memories to the deceased

  • Landscape Architecture and Interior Design students reinvented cemeteries and memorial spaces for sea and tree burials methods.
